settled_mind 安心 A term widely used in Buddhism to indicate the determined mind with which one performs religious practices, and also refer to the ultimate state of mind realized in emancipation. In the Pure Land tradition, it was Shan-tao who meant by this term the “three minds” of the Contemplation Sutra, which are required of an aspiration for performing the practice to attain birth in the Pure Land. Later it came to include the “threefold mind” of the Larger Sutra, and the “single mind” of the Smaller Sutra. It is Rennyo who uses this term frequently as a synonym for the “entrusting heart”.
